Categories of Membership

Fellow

To be elected as a Fellow you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a first degree, and/or be already registered with the Engineering Council  as a Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer, and/or hold an equivalent membership with another relevant Professional Body and have 5 years relevant healthcare experience and demonstrate appropriate competencies, which will be established from your job description and CV, or

  • Have 10 years healthcare experience in senior management and demonstrate appropriate competencies, which will be established from your job description and CV.

Member

To be elected as a Member you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a and HNC, HND, NVQ4 (or equivalent) and/or be already registered with the Engineering Council  as a Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer, and/or hold an equivalent membership with another relevant Professional Body and have 2 years relevant experience, not necessarily in healthcare, and demonstrate appropriate competencies, which will be established from your job description and CV, or 

  • Have 5 years experience in senior management and demonstrate appropriate competencies, which will be established from your job description and CV.

Associate Member

To be elected as an Associate Member you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a and ONC, NVQ3 (or equivalent) and/or be already registered with the Engineering Council as an Engineering Technician, and/or hold an equivalent membership with another relevant Professional Body and have 2 years relevant experience, not necessarily in healthcare, and demonstrate appropriate competencies, which will be established from your job description and CV, or

  • Have 5 years relevant experience and demonstrate appropriate competencies, which will be established from your job description and CV.

Graduate Member

To be elected as a Graduate you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be studying for an engineering or related qualification, undertaking an approved apprenticeship scheme, or be a new graduate on an IPD scheme

Upgrade of Membership

As your career progresses it is appropriate that your membership grade develops with you; the Institute will therefore consider an application from you if you are an existing member who wishes to upgrade your membership category. The above criteria apply, but in addition, you will need to supply a full and up to date CPD record.
