Chris Green LLB (Hons), Partner at Weightmans LLP

Christopher has specialised in regulatory prosecutions since 1995, as a partner since 2004 and is the national team manager for our crime and regulation team. He leads a team of twenty specialist lawyers across six of the Weightmans offices who advise exclusively on adverse incidents and compliance with regulatory requirements. Chris represents companies, directors, senior managers, public sector organisations and individuals in avoiding regulatory breaches and from the outset following accidents and crisis events within their businesses. He guides his employer clients through the regulatory investigation process and the court system following serious and fatal accidents related to work and public places, on road or rail.

His corporate clients come from all types of business sectors including leisure, retail, rail, food, manufacturing, public bodies and construction companies. He advises directors and senior officers when they are investigated personally after such accidents occur. He specialises exclusively in the defence of investigations brought by the Health and Safety Executive, Police, CPS, Office of Rail and Road, Food Standards Agency, Local Authorities and the Environment Agency and has particular experience in rail construction, food, waste, gas explosion, fire safety and gross negligence manslaughter cases. He prosecutes offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and started his career as a prosecutor of regulatory and trading standards offences. He gets involved and assists in the management in the immediate aftermath of adverse incidents and helps clients to investigate incidents, attend interviews under caution, regarding arrest and custody, and presents their cases in criminal and coroners’ courts.

Chris was first ranked in leading Chambers & Partners legal directory for environment and safety prosecutions in 2003 and his team is ranked in both East and West Midlands in the Legal 500. He has been named as one of the Top 50 legal advisers in the North West and is quoted in the Chambers Legal Directory as having a "faultless and tireless" approach to his clients' issues. He has been described as a "leading health and safety prosecutions lawyer." He is quoted in the legal experts section of Tolley's Guide to Corporate Manslaughter and has been published interviewed and quoted by the Times, BBC Breakfast, BBC Radio 2, Radio 5 Live and Central News. He has written published articles for the Financial Times, Insurance Post, Birmingham Post and Estates Gazette. He regularly speaks to the leading practitioners' bodies such as IOSH, ROSPA, the British Safety Council, and at the annually national showpiece Health and Safety Event at the NEC.
