Michael Rope MBIFM, Estates and Facilities Management Guidance Lead, NHS Improvement.

Michael’s experience covers a wide range of NHS estates and facilities management (EFM) areas including project management, waste management contract procurement, waste management assessments, six facet surveys, decontamination audits, business cases, site development plans, site infrastructure and backlog maintenance reviews.

Originally NHS Estates’ facilities manager he moved into consultancy working with Trusts across the North before a sabbatical as FM for Hewlett Packard in Sydney and a further 13 years NHS estate consultancy in London.

Recent projects include programme-managing county-wide small works programmes and driving place-based health and social care projects.

He completed the health element of a successful One Public Estate Asset Delivery Plan going on to manage the masterplanning exercise to identify capital receipts.

He managed and authored bids for health and social care hubs and GP premises expansion bids under the Estates and Technology Transformation Fund.

He has authored TDA-approved land disposal business cases totalling £83.7m and £50m Energy Centre.

He also project managed and authored a national study on the use of simulation facilities in the NHS. 

He now puts his experience of using technical guidance in projects and managing technical experts to good use in updating the NHS EFM suite of guidance documents produced by NHS Improvement.
