IHEEM Annual Conference at
Healthcare Estates
“The Quality Patient Environment – Maintaining the Momentum”
Harrogate International Centre
The theme of this year’s IHEEM Annual Conference at Healthcare Estates goes right to the heart of the challenges ahead. It’s your chance to see how your individual role and those of your fellow professionals, fit together and contribute to the overall effort. Because it’s only through a truly collaborative approach that we can sustain the rate of change, ensure our objectives are consistent, and get the most from our combined knowledge and resources.
This year’s content is arranged in four streams, each addressing a specific aspect of the patient environment by leading national and international speakers. The four streams are; Patient Safety, Design & Construction, Estate & Premises Management and Energy & Sustainability. The IHEEM Annual Conference isn’t a dry, academic exercise, where you’ll simply be lectured to. It’s an open forum, where real dialogue and debate are encouraged, and where real progress can be made. It is this openness and inclusiveness that’s made the IHEEM Annual Conference the biggest and most influential event of its kind in the UK.
Whilst the Conference is a major motivation where we discuss the ‘who’, ‘when’, ‘where’ and ‘why’, the Exhibition at Healthcare Estates deals with the ‘how’, offering every attendee the opportunity to take away more than just ideas, knowledge or a renewed enthusiasm for the challenges ahead. If you are interested in attending the exhibition as a day visitor and/or would like to find out more about opportunities to exhibit, please click here.
Our annual conference dinner will be held on Tuesday 27 October at 19.15 in the Harrogate International Centre and is open to all delegates, exhibitors and their guests. It is an excellent opportunity to network with other delegates and exhibitors, and continue discussing the day’s topics in a more relaxed environment. Tickets are sold quickly for this popular event, so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.
Benefits of attending:
· Discover and discuss the very latest ideas, information and policy shaping our professions
· Meet colleagues, make contacts, find answers during the day and at the popular Conference Dinner
· Join in the debate on technical, professional, financial and quality-related issues
· Understand the policy, legislation and practical issues affecting your facility, now and in the future
· Explore new topics, and share ideas and experiences with colleagues in other specialist areas, through the streamed content and interdisciplinary approach
· Find practical solutions to real-world problems, from people like you.

DEVELOPMENT CENTRE PROGRAMME
15-09-2009 until 15-10-2009 |
To be held on 13th - 15th October 2009 at University of Warwick - (Briefing Day 15th September 2009, London)
Management development is difficult to measure, especially if you do not take any readings before development starts. For the same reason you are equally unable to tell whether, when or even where you might have arrived!
Management development is surely too important to be treated in this casual manner. Organisations are desperately trying to improve management capacity and individual capability and a key requirement is to collect meaningful baseline information before embarking on further developmental journeys.
The Development Centre programme offers the opportunity for individuals to evaluate themselves against a series of management competencies and identify their strengths and development needs. The Centre provides a “safe environment” with its success enhanced by an objective, criteria-based process.
Designed for aspiring directors and senior managers, the Development Centre Programme supports the national Facilities Management Workforce Strategy. The Programme is approved, and supported, by the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) and the Health Facilities Management Association (HeFMA).
Over a briefing day and a 2 day residential stay the Development Centre Programme enables you to demonstrate your skills, behaviours and attitudes within different activities and situations.
The use of psychometric instruments, case studies, presentations, discussions and interviews, offer the opportunity for you to be yourself and provide evidence to demonstrate your degree of competence against agreed criteria.
At the end of the Centre you will have a ‘facilitator’ (drawn from the Observer Team) who will provide personal and objective feedback to help in the preparation of your Personal Development Plan.
The Development Centre Programme enables you to review your existing competencies against the defined competency profiles for:
• Strategic Management
• Managing People
• Achieving Goals
• Managing Relationships
• Communication
• Personal Style

Understanding the Implications and Opportunities of the Sustainability Agenda for the NHS
20-04-2009 until 20-04-2009 |
Graham Marsh Chair of the South West Branch has arranged a seminar relating to Sustainability for the NHS.
You are cordially invited to attend.
It is to be held on 20th April, 6pm for 6.30 at the offices of Gleeds Architects, Unit 1400, Bristol Parkway North, Newbrick Road, Bristol BS34 8YU.
Event Title: Understanding the Implications and Opportunities of the Sustainability Agenda for the NHS
Summary: We are at the start of the Sustainability Revolution - one that is set to change the way we live and work in a far more immediate, radical way than either the Industrial or IT Revolutions. The Climate Change Act will soon impose far reaching obligations on all sectors - with the lead being expected by the public sector.
Do you understand what this means? Do you know how to appraise your organisation or go about managing the change processes? This seminar will outline the challenges but also show how you can embrace a positive drive for change which will lead to more motivated, happier and healthier outcomes for staff and patients in the healthcare sector. It will identify the key issues which you need to audit and identify some of the major benefits to help you kick-start the processes.
Presented by: Sarah Daly - Managing Director of Heath Avery Architects - an expert in Return on Sustainable Investment; Stephen Vaughan - Director of Sustainability, Heath Avery Architects and Kevin Truss, Associate Director of Sustainability, Heath Avery Architects - who have devised a template for Organisational Sustainable Auditing.
