IFHE 21st Congress 2010 Tokyo

Quality measures will include infection rates, clinical outcomes, patient experience and patient-reported outcomes. The physical surroundings of a healthcare facility are one of the few areas which have an impact on the entire patient experience.

This seminar is aimed at Practice Managers and those within the PCT environment with responsibility for premises and facilities who wish to gain a better understanding of the issues surrounding the management of their premises. The seminar will also review Health Building Note 11-01 – “Facilities for primary and community care services” and examine the need for resilience and emergency planning.

This seminar begins with a definition of risk management and a risk management system and proceeds to examine the legal requirements for such a system with reference the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations, HTM 00, Corporate Manslaughter etc.

 

The seminar will also examine a simple model for a risk management system, with reference to HSG 65 as a guide. This is followed by a review of the role of audit in this process, and a practical exercise to help you to assess your current status on several key issues.

 

Principal risk performance trends from 75 estates audits will be reviewed, with common pitfalls and solutions discussed. The seminar ends with  a discussion of findings and conclusions.

National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) 12th - 21st March 2010

National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) is a ten day programme of science, engineering and technology events and activities across the UK aimed at people of all ages. Coordinated by the British Science Association, in partnership with EngineeringUK and with funding from The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, NSEW aims to inspire and engage people from all walks of life with science, engineering and technology. In 2009, over 1.4 million people took part in 3,500 events throughout the UK.

In 2010 NSEW runs from 12th – 21th March and the theme will be ‘Earth’. This theme is designed to coincide with International Year of Biodiversity. We would like to encourage people to organise events and activities to help us celebrate this during NSEW 2010.   The theme of your activities could be anything from Earth's amazing phenomenon to engineering solutions to climate change.

The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists' & Engineers' Fair 2010

The focus of the paper, which is CPD approved, will be a review of the key issues that need to be considered by those involved in the specification and design of Nurse Call and Bedhead Services Systems.
