X-Ray and imaging suites
-
Pathology laboratories
-
Pharmaceutical preparation areas
-
sterile services packing rooms
-
Estates workshops
-

Current and Future Policy/Regulation Related to the Management of Healthcare Waste
22-07-2008 until 22-07-2008 |
Since its release last year, ‘HTM 07-10 Safe management of healthcare waste’ has dominated discussions on healthcare waste issues. The Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 define and regulate the segregation and movement of hazardous waste in England and Wales from the point of production to the final disposal or recovery. The aim of HTM 07-10 is to help people to comply with the legislation and to ensure better, more appropriate segregation. This workshop’s principal aim is to share the experiences of those who have had to put policy into practice.
The NHS must continuously seek to improve its efficiency, productivity and performance in order to provide the best value for taxpayers’ money, recognising that best care and best value go together. It must be committed to the sustainable use of resources and aim to reduce use of energy and other natural resources, minimise production of waste and contribute to the sustainable development of the wider community Innovative approaches in this area not only make sense from an environmental standpoint, but can also make big financial savings!
Aims: This event provides an opportunity to hear the views of a number of those agencies, which working in partnership, will scope the future direction of the management of healthcare waste.

Waste Management in Healthcare Facilities
Starts 10.00 on 13-02-2008 and ends 16.00 on 13-02-2008 |
This set of seminars is designed to address issues surrounding the management of waste in Healthcare Facilities, to make sense of the legislation and guidance currently available and their implications to the Healthcare Estate. By attending this seminar delegates will be able to implement knowledge gained at their Trusts and Facilities, enabling them to make improvements to procedures and practises that could reduce inefficiencies and wastage allowing for financial savings that could be better invested in patient care.
Published in December 2006 the new HTM07-01 replaces the Health Services Advisory Committee’s guidance document ‘Safe disposal of clinical waste’ of 1999. The document has been produced as a best practice guide to the management of healthcare waste and to help healthcare organisations and other producers meet legislative requirements. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) published in 2007, aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. This guidance will have implications for the Healthcare Estate that all those involved with Estates and Facilities should be aware of.

This event will take place at the Birmingham Heartlands NHS Trust Education Centre on Wednesday the 13th February and in London on the 27th February at The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
