SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS SEMINAR

Thursday 23rdSeptember 2010

 Antur Gwy Centre, Builth Wells.

 

The day will feature a wide range of speakers and topics on carbon saving issues and also broader sustainability topics that are of key importance to all those involved in the NHS Estate in Wales. Topics will include: CHP, voltage optimisation and renewables as well as other carbon efficient technologies.

The day will be chaired by Dr Mike Simmons, Director, Public Health Wales and the wide range of speakers, experts in their field, will include:

Fire SeminarGetting Out - Evacuation and Escape 

 

The above seminar, co-hosted by Welsh Health Estates and IHEEM Welsh Branch, will take place on Wednesday 7thJuly 2010 at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.

 The topics covered will encompass the wider aspects of evacuation and disabled escape and issues that are critical to ensuring the safety of patients, visitors and staff when a fire occurs. These include:

  • Firecode requirements
  • Implications of DDA & Fire
  • Technical Solutions
  • Developing Evacuation Strategies
  • Importance of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPS)
  • Importance of a Coordinated Response
  • Evacuation Exercise Case Study

This CPD accredited seminar will focus on these issues and underline the responsibilities of Health Boards and Trusts in Walesin providing and maintaining safety. Speakers will include:

  • Jean Hewitt, DDA Specialist, Jean Hewitt Consulting
  • Anthony Pitcher, Senior Fire Safety Advisor, Welsh Health Estates
  • Ian James, Fire Safety Advisor, Welsh Health Estates

  • Systems for alerting deaf and hard of hearing persons
  • 3D evacuation plans/drawings
  • Voice communication / disabled refuge systems
  • Fire detection and alarms

The seminar will be particularly appropriate for those with responsibility for fire and facilitating evacuation of patients, visitors and employees including Board Level Directors (Fire), Fire Safety Managers, Fire Advisors and Health & Safety Representatives and Estates Managers.
