Annual General Meeting.
The AGM was held on Thursday 11th February 2010 at 6pm at Oldham PCT, Ellen House, Waddington Street Oldham, OL9 6EE.
The AGM was followed by a seminar on Asbestos Regulation.
21st January 2010, Robinson's Brewery Visit.
14 Members toured one of the few remaining traditional working breweries and were shown around the many systems involved in the brewing process. We were also lucky enough to sample the ingredients right from the raw grain through to the finished product.
7th October 2009, Honeywell Valves
Honeywell presented a very interesting seminar on hydronic balancing of hot water systems using the Alwa-Kombi-4 valve. The innovative valves also include the facility for disinfection of the whole system at 70oC. The main benefit of the valve is its automatic operation which effectively allows for future changes without the need for rebalancing.
The 2009/10 Technical Seminar Programme has now been uploaded, please follow the above link.
12th March 2009, Biogas Technology.
A very interseting talk was given by Harold Tong of Scout Green Solutions on anaerobic digestion and the use of the resultant gases. The presentation detailed how waste, such as farm slurry or food, could be treated providing benefits to the environment and the potential to utilize energy created.
12th February 2009, AGM followed by a talk on X-ray Engineering in Malawi.
Keith Feay, X-ray engineer and NW Branch committee member presented details of his recent charity work in Malawi to assist with the installation and repair of equipment that had been donated to the Raven Trust.
13th November 2008, Ground/Air Source Heat Pump Technology.
The GSHP association presented a detailed technical seminar on how different heat source pumps operate, either ground, air or water source.
Probably the key element of the seminar was that these installations have to be properly designed, we can no longer rely on allowing any "comfort" margins, because this will reduce the overall efficiency of the system.
It is imperative that consultants with relative experience are used from an early stage in the design process.
The talk concluded with a presentation by Viessmann on how systems are developing with efficiencies improving and costs reducing with the real chance that this technology may soon be being used in the domestic market.
29th October 2008 - Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
A number of IHEEM North West Branch Members attended a seminar on the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Rochdale Fire Station hosted the event and a very interesting talk was given by Watch Commander Angus Robinson and Station Manager Andy Collinson. Attendees received a document that will greatly assist them in preparing for future Fire Safety Audits along with Fire Safety Risk Assessment - Healthcare premises guidance which can be downloaded from the CLG website.
Following the talk Members visited the Museum of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service which is located at the Rochdale Fire Station. The museum has many interesting exhibits, including several full-size fire appliances, along with equipment, uniforms, models, photographs, medals and insignia and is based around a replica Victorian street. Please scroll down to see a picture of the event.

1st October 2008 - Ventilation Sustainability, Energy Efficiency and F Gas Regulations

The talk took us from sustainability and energy efficiency through to recent advances in how air is delivered. The second part of the talk focussed on the F Gas Regulations, which are current now but will add additional responsibilies on owners of air conditioning equipment and Estate Managers in particular.
