The campus is located about a 10 minute walk from Leeds main line train station. Alternatively there are various car parks located near the campus. 1. LGI car park on Clarendon Way (LS2 9DA) 2. Woodhouse Lane car park on Woodhouse Lane Located at Leeds General Infirmary, adjacent to the University of Leeds campus.

Overview:

The GSC generates more than 50 MW of steam as well as electrical power, hot water, chilled water, and compressed air for the two sites. The site is currently undergoing a major refurbishment which includes a new 33kV high-voltage connection and sub-station, replacement of heating, power and cooling equipment, including more than15 MW of combined heat and power (CHP) units. This tour is your opportunity to learn more about the site, how it is managed, how the CHP operates, the equipment within it and to ask questions at the end of the session.

You will be given a tour of the building lasting approximately 40-45 minutes in small groups and be able to see the control room, generating room, learn about the refurbishment and ask questions once the tour is over.

There are strict requirements for PPE in the GSC that must be adhered to:

  • Hi-vis
  • Safety shoes (ankle boots only)
  • Safety glasses
  • Hard hat
  • Ear defenders (Type TBC) (for access to engine hall)

During the tour you will be climbing steep and narrow stair cases, have to step over high steps in to rooms and there is a great deal of noise and vibration in certain areas. If you have a pacemaker fitted you will not be able to join the tour, but are welcome to attend the information session and question and answer session afterwards.
