George A Rooley

1969-1971 - George A Rooley

After early training and experience in the contracting industry with Maddock and Wright in Leicester, George joined the engineering firm of Truswells in Newcastle under Lyme, where he was involved with many projects for the pottery industries.

When war broke out in 1939 he was appointed Chief Engineer and Consultant to the Scottish Industrial Estates Management Corporation with headquarters in Glasgow and became responsible for the construction, maintenance and repair of the rapidly expanding new industrial estates then being built throughout the Development Areas of Scotland.

After the war, he joined forces with two Glasgow engineers, Donald Smith and Thomas Seymour to form the Consulting Engineering practice, Donald Smith and Partners which, a short while later, became Donald Smith Seymour and Rooley, now known as DSSR Consulting Engineers.  George moved to London in 1955 and continued as Senior Partner of the practice, a position he held until he retired in 1981.
