Celebrating 75 Years of IHEEM

IHEEM 2018 takes place the same week as IHEEM celebrates its 75th anniversary: the Institute was founded on 28 August 1943. To mark the occasion, there will be a black-tie and evening dress formal dinner held from 7pm -11pm on Thursday 30 August (end of day 1) at the five-star St David’s Hotel on the waterfront in Cardiff Bay. 

Programme

The Narmé Quartet of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama will also be performing as guests arrive and during the first half of the dinner.

IHEEM President Pete Sellars who will be welcoming guests to this special evening and will look at the 75 Years of IHEEM.

Professor David Perrett will be providing commentary on: ‘Who has done more for health – doctors, scientists or engineers?’

As well as celebrating the 75th anniversary of IHEEM we will also be marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NHS and we are delighted to have NHS founder, Aneurin Bevan's niece - Nygaire Bevan as one of our guests speakers alongside the Director of the Bevan Commission, Helen Howson.

The after dinner speaker is former Newport RFC and Wales B International Squad player turned sports commentator and broadcaster - Phil Steele who will be entertaining the guests for the final part of the evening.

NHS 70 - Bevan’s legacy: back to the future; personal and professional perspectives

The first part of this will provide a personal insight of Aneurin Bevan from his niece and Bevan Commissioner -  Nygaire Bevan on what it has been like to be part of the Bevan family, having Nye as a major figure throughout her life and what effect this has had on her own life.

The second part will look at the professional perspective of Aneurin Bevan in ensuring the principles he established are fit for the future from Helen Howson, Director of the Bevan Commission.
