Lionel G Northcroft

1967-1969 - Lionel G Northcroft

Lionel G Northcroft was the first President of IHEEM.

Lionel began his career as an apprentice with Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth & Co., now known as BAE Systems. Northcroft’s most prestigious appointment was with Spirax Sarco as Sales Manager in 1932, which subsequently led to him becoming the Managing Director, then Chairman of Spirax Sarco Engineering Ltd.

He was well known and respected in the steam-using field as a lecturer and writer on technical processes and equipment and was appointed OBE in 1949 for his work on fuel efficiency during the war. Northcroft’s work received public recognition by his appointment as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. A hall at Eastwood Park Training Centre, Falfield, the Northcroft Hall, is named after him.

The Northcroft Silver Medal was established by his generosity. The Northcroft Award is now presented to members of IHEEM that have authored the article published in Health Estate Journal, thought to have contributed most to the field of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management.
