A Breath of Fresh Air – HTM 03

HTM 03 provides guidance on the design and management of heating and specialised ventilation in health sector buildings.

The HTM gives comprehensive advice and guidance on the legal requirements, design implications, maintenance and operation of specialised ventilation in all types of healthcare premises and applies to new installations and major refurbishments of existing installations.

This week on 9 November in Leicester the IHEEM Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Energy (HVAC & Energy) Technical Platform will be hosting a seminar looking at the key requirements of HTM 03.

The 'A Breath of Fresh Air' seminar will be introduced by Adrian Lee BEng (Hons) IEng MCIBSE MIHEEM MIET who is the Head of Estates at the Medway NHS Foundation Trust and Chair of the IHEEM Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Energy Technical Platform.

Adrian will also present a session looking at ‘Fire damper maintenance with a CIP – Proposal and delivering fire damper maintenance and monitoring in-house’. This session will look at the requirements of HTM 03, HTM 05 BS9999 and BS EN 15423 as well as the installation risks, maintenance and inspection requirements.  

Richard Knight who is the Director of Richard Knight Consulting, an author, trainer and an Authorising Engineer (Ventilation), will be presenting three sessions during the day:

  • HTM 03-01 why bother, what’s important, why do it?
  • Verifications: what’s required, your duties what is required
  • Hot topics, Common problems and their solutions.

Richard is a highly knowledgeable specialist in healthcare ventilation with over 30 years’ experience in healthcare estates management, mostly from within NHS Trusts. Richard is also a Chartered Engineer, an Authorising Engineer and a founding member and the Chair of the CIBSE healthcare group, past Chair, and Hon Secretary of CIBSE South West Region. He has similar interests in Healthcare Electrical Systems including Medical Locations, and Water Systems amongst others.
