Job Title: Energy and Administration Officer

Overview

Provide full, efficient and comprehensive administrative support to the Energy and Environmental Department and secretarial support to the team
Under the guidance of the Energy & Environmental Manager and Energy Manager, be responsible for ensuring that data relating to utilities is maintained and accurate, authorising payments to utility suppliers, and assisting the Managers in achieving the goals of the Trust Sustainable Development Management Plan (SDMP).

Assist the Energy Manager in the development, management, and delivery of the Trust’s energy management programme liaising with Estates and Facilities Operational Teams and external organisations, helping to ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice and sector guidance.

Assist the Energy Manager/Environmental Manager in the implementation of policies and strategies that will achieve national, local and Trust-wide environmental targets including the elements of Carbon Footprint, Energy, Utilities, Waste, Travel, Procurement and Sustainability.

Formal Qualifications, education & training required

Qualification in/ or equivalent relevant work experience in Energy or Environmental Management.    

Essential skills and competencies


• Analytical skills required to identify anomalous data (e.g. in invoices, meter readings, vehicle usage), and judgment in order to act appropriately to manage the issue.

• Able to support the planning and organisation of straightforward activities, some ongoing/complex activities with regard to environmental projects.
• Able to facilitate the planning of Estates/Facilities environmental projects, including communicating with users, contractors and Trust staff.

• Taking minutes of meetings, distributing and following up action required.

• Able to process information as directed by the Energy/Environmental Manager, for exchange with specialists and non-specialists in relation to environmental projects.

• Able to analyse a range of facts or situations and inform the Energy/Environmental

• Manager on comparison of different options to arrive at best solutions for waste and energy reduction.

• Able to gather information on Estates environmental issues taking into account environmental policy.

Essential experience

• Basic knowledge of a range of routine work procedures, practices, underpinned by theory or practical experience which may be applied to Estates and Facilities Environmental work.
• Basic knowledge of Estates operational environmental procedures, acquired through on the job training, induction, or introductory level qualification.
• Basic knowledge of energy, waste, environmental and sustainability management systems including ISO 14001.
• A working knowledge of current health & safety legislation in relation to environmental issues

• Experience of interfacing with IT systems, for the retrieval of energy and environmental information.
• Experience of billing analysis and negotiation

Job Title: Environmental Officer 

Overview

• To help the Energy and Environment Department (E&E Department) implement a trust-wide approach to environmental and sustainability issues.
• Assist the E&E Department in the implementation of policies and strategies that will achieve national, local and trust-wide environmental targets including the elements of Carbon Footprint, Energy, Utilities, Waste, Travel and Transport, Procurement and Sustainability.
• Provide ongoing support to the Department to ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice and sector guidance
• Liaising with clinical and non-clinical teams and directorates to collate, interpret and analyse travel and transport data, assisting the Trust Environmental and Sustainability Manager to make recommendations to improve the sustainability of the Trusts service provision
• Assist the Environmental Manager in retaining accreditation to ISO14001:2015 by undertaking site based environmental audits across the trust’s portfolio.
• Provide support to the E&E Department with the development of schemes/bids/business cases for obtaining local and central funding and project support for schemes relating to environmental initiatives.
• Liaising with external organisations within and outside of the health and care sector to share best practice
• Champion the environmental agenda, driving forward the Trusts green credentials

Formal Qualifications, education & training required  

Education to degree level or equivalent with a professional qualification in waste management, sustainable development, environmental management or similar (NEBOSH, C&G, NVQ L6) or Equivalent experience and working knowledge to demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following specialisms waste management, sustainable development, environmental or energy management. 

Essential skills and competencies

Able to process information as directed by the Trust Environmental and Sustainability Manager, for exchange with specialists and non-specialists in relation to environmental projects.

Able to analyse a range of facts or situations and inform Trust Environmental and Sustainability Manager on comparison of different options to arrive at best solutions for resource reduction.

Able to gather information on Estates environmental issues taking into account environmental policy.

Attend meetings, training courses and occasionally participate in specific tasks or projects as directed by the Energy/Environmental Manager e.g. NPAG.

Able to support the planning and organisation of straightforward activities, some ongoing/complex activities with regard to environmental projects.

Able to facilitate the planning trust-wide environmental projects, including communicating with users, contractors, and Trust staff.

Able to write clearly, use computer software to produce and compile reports with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to help implement Trust-wide procedures across all facets of environmental, waste and sustainability.

Essential experience

• Education to degree level or equivalent with a professional qualification in waste management, sustainable development, environmental management or similar (NEBOSH, C&G, NVQ L6) or
• Equivalent experience and working knowledge to demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following specialisms waste management, sustainable development, environmental or energy management
• Experience of working to policies and procedures relating specifically to environmental management and the wider sustainability agenda e.g. Environmental Policy, waste management procedure
• Experience of working alone and as part of a team to meet set objective
• Experience of problem solving
• Experience of managing workload
• Experience of interfacing with IT systems, for the retrieval and management of energy and environmental information e.g. waste and recycling data, meter readings for electricity and water consumption, mileage data for fleet vehicles.
• Experience in the maintenance of, or contribution to, environmental management systems.
• Knowledge and understanding of a range of routine work procedures, practices, underpinned by theory or practical experience which may be applied to Estates and Facilities Environmental work
• Knowledge and understanding of Estates operational environmental procedures acquired through on the job training, induction, or introductory level qualification.
• Knowledge and understanding of environmental management systems including ISO 14001.
• Working knowledge of sustainability issues and principles including waste, energy, and travel.
• A working knowledge of current health & safety legislation in relation to environmental issues
• Basic knowledge of audits in an environmental context.

Job Title: Environmental and Engagement Officer

Overview

• To help implement a Trust-wide approach to environmental and sustainability issues.
• Provide ongoing support to the Trust Environmental and Sustainability Manager, liaising with Estates and Facilities Operational Teams and external organisations, helping to ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice and sector guidance.
• Assist the Trust Environmental and Sustainability Manager in the implementation of policies and strategies that will achieve national, local and Trust-wide environmental targets including the elements of Carbon Footprint, Waste, Travel, Procurement and Sustainability.
• Provide support to the Trust Environmental and Sustainability Manager with the development of schemes/bids/business cases for obtaining local and central funding and project support for schemes relating to environmental initiatives.
• Champion the environmental engagement agenda, ensuring the trust remains a leader in sustainable healthcare.

The role is to support Trust-wide environmental initiatives.

• Specialist skills in relation to waste and environmental systems
• Ability to use IT packages for the management of environmental issues
• Auditing, monitoring and implementation of service standards in relation to professional field.
• Undertake appropriate risk assessments and risk analysis for waste services.
• To recognise potentially hazardous situations and be able to take appropriate corrective action.
• Chair/lead relevant meetings/groups, produce minutes with action plans for all work and activity associated with this role.
• Excellent communication and negotiating skills with staff, customers, and patients at all levels.
• Financial acumen
• Positive attitude combined with good influencing skills.
• Delivering training on waste to a wide-ranging audience from board level management briefings to staff level
• Management of waste contracts, from a waste producer perspective, delivering cost
effective and environmentally efficient disposal.

• Use of IT systems, for the storage and retrieval of environmental information.

Essential experience

• Working experience of policies and procedures in relation to environmental management
• Development and maintenance of environmental management system
• Ability to deliver group training
• Able to audit departments against environmental standards and ‘best practice’ guidelines
• Understanding of Health and Safety at Work issues and risk assessments
• Relevant experience of environmental issues and liaising effectively with specialist contractors/professional advisors

 

Job Title: Energy Manager

Overview

As Energy Manager the purpose of the role is to be the point of contact and develop, implement and manage systems for the efficient management of energy and wider environmental initiatives to ensure the Trust receives best value for money whilst maintaining high environmental standards.

Working across the Trust with the Estates & Facilities Operational Teams, Clinical Directorates and external organisations ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice and guidance. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of policies and strategies that will achieve national, local and Trust-wide environmental targets.

The role is Trust wide and plays a key role in developing Trust-Wide initiatives by ensuring compliance with legislation, meeting national targets and encouraging and promoting organisation wide participation and awareness in energy and environmental initiatives.

Formal Qualifications, education & training required

Degree level qualification in science based subject such as such as physics, engineering or mathematics.

Experience in one or more of Waste Management, Sustainable Development, Environmental Management

  • Ability to use IT packages for the management of energy issues
  • Auditing, monitoring and implementation of service standards in relation to professional field.
  • Undertake appropriate risk assessments and risk analysis for energy services.

  • Chair/lead relevant meetings/groups, produce minutes with action plans for all work and activity associated with this role.

  • Knowledge of a range of routine work procedures, practices, underpinned by theory or practical experience which may be applied to Facilities Environmental work.
  • Knowledge of Estates operational environmental procedures, acquired through on the job training, induction, or introductory level qualification. With particular emphasis on energy using plant and equipment in order to identify potential energy savings and more efficient alternatives
  • Knowledge of waste, environmental and sustainability management systems including ISO 14001.
  • Working knowledge of current health & safety legislation in relation to environmental issues
  • Basic knowledge of audits in an environmental context
  • Experience in interfacing with IT systems, for the retrieval of energy and environmental information.
  • Experience in the maintenance of environmental management systems at the instruction of an Environmental Manager

Job Title: Environmental Manager 

Overview

As the Environmental Manager the purpose of the role is to be the point of contact and develop, implement and manage systems for the efficient management of waste, waste recycling and wider environmental initiatives to ensure the Trust receives best value for money whilst maintaining high environmental standards.

Working across the Trust with the Estates & Facilities Operational Teams, Clinical Directorates and external organisations ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice and guidance. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of policies and strategies that will achieve national, local and Trust-wide environmental targets.

The role is Trust wide and plays a key role in developing Trust-Wide initiatives by ensuring compliance with legislation, meeting national targets and encouraging and promoting organisation wide participation and awareness in environmental initiatives.

  • Waste auditing, covering policy compliance and compositional analysis.
  • Knowledge of NHS waste guidance (HTM 07-01), UK waste legislation (both hazardous and non-hazardous)

Job Title: Trust Environmental and Sustainability Manager

Overview

To lead, develop and implement a Trust-wide approach to environmental sustainability, and provide senior professional management of the Trust’s environmental services including; energy and water management, waste management, carbon reduction, sustainable travel, environmental legal compliance, sustainable design and construction, environmental management systems, communications and staff engagement. To proactively embed environmental sustainability and efficiency across the organisation and to engage key stakeholders including Estates & Facilities Operational Teams, Clinical Directorates and external organisations, to deliver the Trust’s vision of becoming a leading NHS Trust for environmental sustainability.

Act as a professional sustainability advisor to the Head of Operational Estates and Facilities (Trustwide) on behalf of the Trust.

The role is Trust-wide and plays a key role in developing Trustwide initiatives, contributing to the reputation of the Trust as a leading organisation in the sustainability field by ensuring compliance with legislation, meeting national targets and encouraging and promoting organisation-wide participation in energy and environmental initiatives.

Master’s Degree (or equivalent specialist knowledge) in an engineering or environmental discipline

A Degree in Energy Management, Waste Management, Sustainable Development, Environmental Management or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of financial systems and the preparation of annual budget assessments and ongoing financial monitoring.
  • Specialist knowledge – sustainability, energy management and environmental management including strategic awareness, business case preparation and presentations
  • Knowledge of energy, environmental and sustainability management systems including maintaining ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Knowledge of HTM 07-01and associated standards
  • Knowledge of risk assessments and risk treatment plans.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in a similar role
