IHEEM at the Big Bang
The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists’ and Engineers’ Fair kicks off National Science and Engineering Week and this year will be held at Manchester Central Convention Complex on 11th-13th March 2010. The Big Bang will celebrate and raise the profile of young people’s achievement in science and engineering and encourage more young people to take part in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives with support from their parents and teachers. School groups are invited to the fair, which will take place over three days and include the 300 student projects showcasing innovation and creativity competing in the National Science & Engineering Competition for national and international awards. And this year the event will also be open to the public on Saturday 13th March.
This year, for the first time, IHEEM will be present at the Big Bang event. Central to the exhibition floor will be the “Careers Hub” which offers visitors the chance to gather information on particular careers in STEM. Supported by the NW Branch, members of IHEEM will be on hand within the “Engineers of the Future” section to offer advice to youngsters interested in a career in Healthcare Engineering.
In addition, IHEEM is playing an active role in co-ordinating a stand within the exhibition providing engaging hands-on activities with a Healthcare Engineering theme. The centrepiece of this display is Static Systems’ “ Ward of the Future” providing an opportunity for visitors to experience first-hand the latest in technology within a hospital ward.
