The President provides leadership to the Council and ensures that trustees fulfill their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the Institute. The President supports, and where appropriate challenges, the Chief Executive and ensures that the Council as a whole works in partnership with executive staff. 

Pete Sellars was appointed IHEEM President in October 2016. Pete has 40 years’ experience of managing and delivering professional healthcare estate & facilities services. He has held senior management roles, at national, strategic, and operational levels, within the Department of Health and the NHS.

Pete led the successful introduction of a number of national programs these included the NHS Premises Assurance Model, Procure 21+ Construction Framework, SHAPE, and PLACE, alongside securing targeted funding for the £50M Energy Invest to Save programme and £50M Dementia Patient Environment programmes.

In November 2016, at the President’s Address and Awards Ceremony was held at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Pete Sellars set out his plans and visions for the Institute.

  • Engagement with members, individual & corporate, to ensure the Institute is serving and meeting its members needs and action Head Office to undertake survey of all members to find out what they want from the Institute. There will also be a focus on engaging with apprentices, by giving them a voice, and creating better opportunities for them to engage with IHEEM.
  • IHEEM working with Industry & Training Providers nationally to take the lead to promote & support the introduction of apprenticeships within our sector, alongside identifying promoting the introduction of Bursaries.
  • Developing our future membership base and strengthening our national voice through wider collaboration with University sector.
  • Developing our future membership base and strengthening our national voice through collaboration at national and local level with HEFMA; to create a stronger unified EFM voice. 
  • Raising IHEEM UK and International profile, creating a collaborative trading arm through HBE Ltd
