Medical Gas

The IHEEM AE(MGPS) Register, allows those practising the AE(MGPS) role, formal recognition and enables them to show that they have been assessed through a peer group to a high level of competency and professionalism.

Registering with IHEEM will show that the individual is competent in his knowledge of Medical Gas Pipeline Systems by having undertaken an accredited training course and by keeping their CPD up to date. An AE(MGPS) registered with IHEEM will also be able to demonstrate their professionalism by being bound by a Code of Conduct of Good Practice.

The AE(MGPS) Register is maintained on behalf of IHEEM by the AE(MGPS) Panel which is currently chaired by Bill Millar of United Lincolnshire Hospitals.

The Panel is made up of the following:

  • 5 AE(MGPS) - Representation to include each UK Health Organisation
  • 1 Representative from the Medical Gas Association
  • 1 Pharmaceutical Representative
  • 1 Representative from the Dept of Health
  • 1 Representative from an accredited training organisation

Minutes of the meetings will also be circulated to the MHRA and the national Association of Perioperative Practice.

For more information on the role of an AE(MGPS) you may like to read the article that was published in the April edition of the HEJ.
