The images showcase the proposed Lingen Davies Cancer Centre – a purpose-built facility designed around the needs of patients, creating a calm, welcoming, and therapeutic environment where people can receive treatment closer to home.
Delivered through a partnership between the region’s primary cancer charity Lingen Davies Cancer Support and The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), the centre forms part of the Hospitals Transformation Programme.
Funded through Lingen Davies’ £5m Sunflower Appeal, the new centre will significantly expand local cancer services and is expected to open in 2029. The charity recently marked the anniversary of the Appeal launch by announcing £1.25m has been raised to date.
The centre is being carefully designed within an existing hospital footprint to utilise as much space as possible and is expected to provide a range of spaces to support chemotherapy and other treatments, alongside facilities that could support consultations, more complex procedures, and other aspects of care.
Angie Cooper, matron for oncology and haematology at SaTH, said: “The concept of this new centre reflects how modern cancer care should be delivered. We’ve worked closely with the architects so that all spaces in the centre are not only clinically efficient but also improve the experience for patients during what can be an incredibly difficult time.
“Having increased chemotherapy capacity will allow us to care for more patients in an environment specifically designed for cancer services.
“Importantly, it means more people from Telford and the surrounding areas will be able to receive high-quality treatment closer to home, while strengthening cancer services across the whole county.”
Naomi Atkin, chief executive of Lingen Davies Cancer Support, added: “Seeing these CGI impressions for the new Lingen Davies Cancer Centre is a fantastic step forward in the Appeal. Every space has been thoughtfully designed with patients and their families in mind, creating an environment that is welcoming, modern, and built around delivering the very best care.
“This centre will be one of the most significant investments in cancer services our region has ever seen and Lingen Davies Cancer Support is incredibly proud to be working in partnership with SaTH to deliver this vision. It represents what can be achieved when our community comes together behind a shared ambition, and every donation to the Sunflower Appeal is helping bring this vision to life.”
