Job Title: Sterilizer & Decontamination Services Engineer
Overview
To assist the Estates Department in the provision of an efficient and cost-effective system of specialist services in respect to the maintaining, testing, commissioning and validating sterilisers, autoclaves, washer/disinfectors (including Endoscopy disinfection machines) in accordance with the requirements of Department of Health best practice Health Technical Memorandum Choice framework for local policy and procedures (CFPP)

Formal Qualifications, education & training required
- Recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ
- Certificate demonstrating satisfactory completion of an accredited course (City & Guilds or equivalent) in the validation and periodic testing of at least two sterilizer processes
- Higher National Certificate or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Recognised Electrical Engineering or building services apprenticeship or equivalent
Essential skills and competencies
- Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship work in an Engineering or Building Services environment
- Minimum two years experience as an Engineering craftsman in an acute healthcare environment
- Minimum three years experience in the validation and periodic testing of porous load sterilizers and at least one other steriliser process
- Maintenance and repair of complex Building Services Installations OR Maintenance and repair of complex Engineering plant and equipment Installation of engineering building services
- Testing and commissioning of Engineering building services.
Essential experience
knowledge of water distribution systems, installation requirements, design implications, drainage systems, microbiological contamination, infection control principles, aseptic techniques.
