After pre-dinner drinks and a delicious three-course meal — and before an after dinner talk by rugby star Jonathan Davies CBE — delegates settled down to watch the 2026 IHEEM Wales Regional Awards presentation.
In total, there were seven awards up for grabs.
Apprentice of the Year Award
Sponsored by Tilbury Douglas, the winner of the Apprentice of the Year award was Oliver Bujega — Withybush General Hospital in Pembrokeshire.
“This year’s winner has demonstrated exceptional dedication, technical ability, and a commitment to excellence far beyond expectations.
“From the very start of his career, this individual has stood out for his professionalism, strong work ethic, and patient-focused approach. Already performing at a level beyond that of an apprentice, he has earned the respect of colleagues across disciplines while actively promoting the profession and inspiring the next generation. A true role model, combining skill, ambition, and a genuine commitment to service.”
Estates Champion of Champions Award
As sponsored by Approved Air, the 2026 Estates Champion of Champions award was won by Jason Oliver — Morriston Hospital, Swansea University Health Board.
“This year’s winner is an individual who truly stands above the rest. Demonstrating outstanding professionalism, technical expertise, and unwavering dedication, they have consistently delivered excellence, even in the most challenging and high pressure situations. A truly deserving recipient whose commitment, leadership, and service set the standard for others to follow.”
Estates and Facilities Team of the Year Award
The third award of the evening, as sponsored by Eastwood Park, was the Estates and Facilities Team of the Year Award, which was won by the Neath Port Talbot Hospital PFI handback Management Team.
“This year’s winning team has demonstrated exceptional leadership, collaboration, and resilience in managing one of the most complex and high-risk areas of healthcare estates. Their commitment, professionalism, and strong focus on protecting patient services and public investment make them thoroughly deserving of this recognition.”
Exhibitor Stand of the Year Award
Each year, this award is presented to the exhibitor whose stand best incorporated the conference theme: Navigating uncertainty — contingency and resilience in healthcare estates. This year’s winner of the Exhibitor Stand of the Year Award was ModuleCo Healthcare Limited.
Sustainability Award
Awarded to Powys Teaching Health Board for their RE:FIT Cymru energy project, the Sustainability Award was sponsored by Tarkett.
“This award recognises an organisation that has shown outstanding commitment to sustainability, delivering meaningful carbon reduction across a complex and diverse healthcare estate. Working across one of the largest and most geographically challenging health boards in Wales, this project has successfully implemented innovative, tailored solutions, balancing heritage buildings, operational demands, and modern energy efficiency.”
Capital Project of the Year Award
With James and Nicholas sponsoring, the Capital Project of the Year Award was won by The Velindre Satellite Radiotherapy Unit, Nevill Hall Hospital.
“This year’s project exemplifies excellence in design, delivery, and impact on patient care. Delivered within a live hospital environment, it brings innovative, high quality cancer treatment closer to local communities through exceptional collaboration and precision. With a patient centred design, advanced technology, and strong commitment to sustainability and future proofing, the project sets a new benchmark for healthcare infrastructure in Wales. Completed on time and to an exceptional standard, it showcases the very best of partnership working and clinical ambition.”
Graham Stanton Award — Commitment to Service Award
Finally, this award — presented by IHEEM and NWSSP-SES — recognises an individual whose dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact on both colleagues and patient care. It was won by Geoff Martin — senior clinical technologist at Withybush General Hospital in Pembrokeshire.
“Through years of exceptional service, this individual has earned a reputation for expertise, reliability, and a truly patient-centred approach. Highly respected by peers and trusted across the Health Board, they consistently go above and beyond, combining technical excellence with kindness, humility, and a genuine willingness to support others.
“A quiet but remarkable contributor, whose work embodies the very best of service and professionalism.”
An evening with Sparkle
The awards presented, delegates enjoyed a fascinating and spirited talk with Jonathan Davies CBE, along with an auction for charity Sparkle (South Wales), which is dedicated to improving the lives of children and young people with disabilities and developmental difficulties across Gwent with specialist clubs, activities, events, family support services, and accessible leisure opportunities — all designed to help children reach their full potential and ensure families feel supported and included.
Once again, the IHEEM Wales Regional Awards Gala Dinner proved to be a very special occasion, and we look forward to next year’s event.
