Job Title: Tradesperson

Overview

To assist the Hospital Estates Department in the provision of an efficient and cost-effective system of maintenance, including the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and building services, building fabric, and associated equipment, internally and externally. All in accordance with current legislation, standards, guidance, and good working practices.

3 or 4

Salary

£19K-£24K

Formal Qualifications, education & training required

Ideally holds an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent CGLI advanced craft certificate qualification) within Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, and Building.

Essential skills and competencies

  • Able to work using own initiative.
  • Able to communicate effectively at different levels.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Able to work in an organised manner.
  • Full understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Understanding of infection control procedures.
  • Understanding of personal health and safety.

Desirable skills and competencies

Skill sets and competencies that could support the role such as experience across other professional and/or trade disciplines or skills related to hobbies and interests etc.

Essential experience

  • Ability to support relevant Estates activities preferably with previous experience from an NHS Healthcare background.
  • Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship work in the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and building services, building fabric, and associated equipment.
  • Working in a health care environment.

Job Title: Semi-Skilled / Assistant

Overview

  • Assists Tradesmen in the reactive repairs and planned maintenance of the Trust’s built environment and associated engineering systems.
  • Undertakes and records system checks such as water temperatures etc. at sentinel outlets and TMVs etc.

£19K-£20K

Formal Qualifications, education & training required

Ideally has the experience and a good working knowledge of built environment and engineering system maintenance activities.

Essential skills and competencies

  • Able to work using own initiative. Able to communicate effectively at different levels.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Able to work in an organised manner.
  • Full understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Understanding of infection control procedures.
  • Understanding of personal health and safety.

Desirable skills and competencies

Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Craftsman (fitter)

To assist the Hospital Estates Department in the provision of an efficient and cost-effective system of maintenance and installation of mechanical engineering, building services and associated equipment. All in accordance with current legislation, standards, guidance and good working practices

Formal Qualifications, education & training required

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering or building services apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ
  • Participation in specialist Health Service training, cross trade training.
  • Prepared to share skills and knowledge with other team members
  • Undergo ongoing personal development
  • Current clean driving license

Essential skills and competencies

  • Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Building Services Installations

OR

  • Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Engineering plant and equipment

OR

  • Installation of Mechanical Building Services

  • Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship work in a mechanical engineering or building service environment Testing and commissioning of mechanical building services

Desirable Skills and Competencies

Health and Safety at Work Act Understanding the principles of at least two of the following water systems:

  • Ventilation systems
  • Steam distribution
  • Air conditioning
  • Steam raising plant

Essential Experience

  • Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Building Services Installations

OR

  • Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Engineering plant and equipment

OR

  • Installation of Mechanical Building Services.
  • Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship work in a mechanical engineering or building service environment
  • Testing and commissioning of mechanical building services.
  • Participation in specialist Health Service training
  • Participation in cross-trade training
  • Undergo ongoing personal development

Job Title: Electrical Engineering Craftsman (Electrician)

Overview

To assist the Hospital Estates Department in the provision of an efficient and cost-effective system of maintenance and installation of electrical engineering, building services and associated equipment. All in accordance with current legislation, standards, guidance and good working practices.

£21K-£24K

Formal Qualifications, education & training required

  • Professional knowledge acquired through Serving an apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ or level of experience and specialist knowledge acquired through courses and experience.
  • N.E.B.S.S. or equivalent in supervisory management

Essential skills and competencies

  • Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship work in an electrical engineering or building services environment.

  • Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Building Services Installations

OR

  • Maintenance and repair of Mechanical Engineering plant and equipment

OR

  • Installation of Mechanical Building Services.

Desirable skills and competencies

  • Participation in specialist Health Service Training
  • Participation in cross-trade training
  • Prepared to share skills and knowledge with other team members
  • Undergo ongoing personal development
  • Current clean driving license.

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 17th Edition IEE regulations
  • Understanding the principles of electrical distribution, electrical switchgear, electrical plant, electrical appliances, electrical installation.
