Bio:
Andy is a Chartered Electrical Engineer with over 30 years of experience in NHS estates and healthcare engineering management. Based in the North‑East of England, he has developed extensive expertise in the operation, maintenance, and governance of electrical systems across acute, community, and specialist healthcare environments.
For the past four years, Andy has worked as an Authorising Engineer (Electrical) and now operates independently as Andy Fairless Authorising Engineering Services (AFAES). He provides AE (Electrical) and Lift services to healthcare and commercial organisations, delivering independent, impartial, and technically robust advice. His work supports clients in achieving statutory and HTM compliance, strengthening electrical safety management systems, and maintaining safe systems of work.
Andy is an active contributor to the wider engineering profession. He is a member of the IHEEM Electrical Technical Platform, represents IHEEM on the BSI JPELC/64 technical committee for BS 7671, and serves as a Professional Review Interviewer, supporting the assessment and development of future Chartered Engineers. He is also a committee member of the IHEEM North East Branch, promoting best practice and professional development across the sector.
