Boiler house managers and operators involved in managing the water quality of their boilers.
What is it about?
This course is designed to explain why water treatment of steam plant helps ensure it operates safely and efficiently. The aim is to provide delegates with the knowledge and information to help manage and treat the system effectively. It will also help you to manage any third party water treatment contractors
Course objectives
- Develop a practical guide to water treatment operations
- Understand the importance of water treatment guidance, e.g. BG04
- Develop schemes to prevent scale, corrosion and fouling
- Understand chemical dosing requirements
- Know how to put in place a boiler water treatment strategy

- The properties of water, including quality and hardness
- Pre-treatment of water, including softeners, reverse osmosis
- Feedtanks, pressurised deaerators
- Boiler blowdown / Total Dissolved Solids
- Practical chemical treatment of steam boilers
- Condensate line treatment
- Boiler Water Testing
- Legislation, including BG04

City & Guilds Accreditation Certification on successful completion of assessment requirements Spirax Sarco Certificate of Attendance (if no assessment undertaken)
Format of course
Classroom based and practical water testing. This course is assessed by multiple choice test paper and practical assessment. This Spirax Sarco course is accredited by The City & Guilds Group. Delegates will take undertake a practical assessment and a written exam as part of the course.
