IHEEM Advisory Platforms
IHEEM Environmental Advisory Platform
Chair: Steven Heape
Overview
The IHEEM Sustainability Advisory Platform recognises the critical role of healthcare engineers in addressing the climate crisis, and has aligned its efforts around three strategic themes designed to build knowledge, foster collaboration, and support evidence-based action.
Communication
The first theme is centred on improving how we communicate sustainability across the IHEEM community by making knowledge accessible, engaging, and actionable. This will support members in understanding key issues and developments—whether they are new to sustainability or already delivering net zero strategies on the ground.
Engagement
The second theme recognises that IHEEM does not operate in isolation; sustainability is a cross-sector challenge, and progress depends on collaboration. The platform is prioritising engagement with the wider ecosystem—bringing together expertise from partner organisations, academic institutions, regional networks, and professional bodies, ensuring IHEEM members are both well-informed and well-represented in wider conversations shaping the sector.
Research
Staying at the forefront of change requires a clear line of sight to emerging research. The third theme focuses on ensuring that IHEEM is contributing to, and drawing insight from, current sustainability research programmes. The panel will work to translate research findings into practical takeaways, ensuring that members benefit from the latest thinking and innovation.
